..as I was cycling along the canal I thought I'd pop down to see the Linford Christie Stadium in Wormwood Scrubs. In my opinion, it's the perfect site. Much larger than Loftus Road, a multi-purpose sports stadium could be built here for the benefit of all. Currently, the whole place is shabby, run down and criminally underused. It was all wide open, so I wandered in and took a good look around. There was one person, that's right, just one person, using the track and there was another bloke picking up rubbish round the back of the main stand. Apart from that, the place was deserted.
Wormwood Scrubs is fantastic, by the way. A vast open space teeming with wildlife, wild flowers, woods fringe the edges and a strange copse sits in the centre, among the huge, empty playing fields and the wilder areas beyond. Wormwood scrubs nick is an eerie presence on the southern border, next to the industrial looking rear of Hammersmith Hospital. But a few minutes to the north and you can be knee deep in wild grasses and flowers, with only the sound of bird song and the wind and a spectacular view across London.
"Tony Fernandes @tonyfernandes: Excellent stadium meeting. Wow. Looks great. Going to make big announcment. Hopefully see amit in a few hours to brief him. Wow"
