Einstein–Rosen - what it really means

St Christopher's picture

This has links to the theoretical existence of additional dimensions and also something called String Theory. It proposes that our universe is actually part of a multiverse, each existing on top of one another kind of like sheets of paper. Some would describe them as alternate realities. Einstein–Rosen bridges (Black holes) are thought to be tunnels or gateways between said sheets and not just the ones directly above and below. Add in the fact that time appears to slow down the closer you get to a black hole (and vice versa) and you have a nice neat fit for how the big bang might possibly have occurred and a potential explanation for why our universe is still expanding at a faster rate. If the Big Bang was caused by a black (or white) hole switching on it also explains why we haven't seen it as we'd only be able to infer it's existence by it's interaction with the surrounding spacetime..

"It occurs to me I may be spending too much time on Nasa's website"

Anyhoo, coming back to alternate realities if we could find a way to traverse an Einstein Rosen Bridge and emerge on the other side we could conceivably find ourselves (if the Stargate/ Star Trek model holds up) in a world where the R's are League, European, World and intergalactic five time champions. Sweet, but I'm stuffed if I know what the cab fare would be Guv.

Or, if Einstein's right about equal and opposite reactions, we could be facing relegation from the West London A League but at least United will win the title. Sutton United that is, and the cab fare won't matter cos I'll be president of the Galaxy anyway.
