This evening has been.... confusingly confrontational

....I have just returned from a buying an evening meal in a slightly less salubrious part of the world than the one which I reside in. My choice of evening wear was that rather sporting (for the trimmer figured), long sleeved Rangers rugby style shirt. Imagine my surprise to receive a disparaging comment regarding my dress sense, as I strolled across the parking lot in 'the grrrhetto', then to get even more shite talk as I waited for my delicious gourmet 'genuine southern fried' dinner. Having a gene deficency that makes me prone to talking when I should shut up, I am rapidly making matters worse, in total oblivion to what the fark is actually going on.

For I've finally twigged....Basketball is big in some demographics, and this is the semi, or the Final Four, which is as high on my list of interests as erm..cricket.

Told him about my less than welcoming greeting in the 'hood'. Apparently, among the Afro American community, Duke is traditionally considered to be one of the more racialist colleges in this country. "But it's only a band shirt", I protested, "well known and easily recognised among the basketball community", he replied. I've made a conscientious decision that QPR becomes a suburban thing...ooh 'ang on, that might make me a runner. I'll just have to take my chances and hope the funny accent stops me from getting a beat down.

Education, Education, Education

I don't pretend to understand the sociological weirdness of the the US, but education is what's needed.

You must go out on to the streets and proclaim the magic of Queens Park Rangers and the blue and white hoops and invoke the spirits of: Marsh, Bowles, Currie, Byrne, Sir Les. Francis, Given, Thomas, Clement, Gillard, Hunt, Langley, Springett and Springett. Lazarus, Venables, Sanderson. In no particular order, except that Marsh and Bowles must always come first.

That should see you alright.

...a mate of mine was trying to explain the reason why basketball was such a great sport. He had his work cut out as I've very little interest, although I do occasionally attend a Celtics game just for an evening out. I mentioned my difficulty in paying attention  and he wondered if raising the hoop might be a way of making it more entertaining....my reply was lowering the basket would probably be the way to go.

But said shirt will be on display next Saturday

...in the safe suburb of Foxborough. It will be worn at the home opener of the New England Revolutions season v Toronto.
