Downloading (or copying) has been happening ever since they invented tapes and walkman's. As a youth I probably wouldn't listen to half the music I now listen to unless mates made me up tapes, etc.

Draconian measure that doesn't help music. What next are we banned from copying our cd's over to Itunes (or whatever MP3 player you use).

Surely the music industry should be looking at ways to generate money from this, not resort to methods that won't work.

Discuss.

Based on this ruling, the post office should be responsible for the legality of the contents of all post sent and received in the UK.  Similarly, the power companies must surely be responsible for enforcing that electricity and gas are not used to power anything that breaks the law.  It is a ridiculous law that will end up costing consumers a fortune and throttle the future growth of our internet industry.

How long before the ability to block access to a website through injunction is used by the internet equivalents of John Terry to censor opinion?  Perhaps I should seek an injunction against the other site? :)

Sadly, a few greedy pigs in the record industry have been ripping off musicians for a few years.  Now the Internet begins to undermine their cartel, so they squeal 'unfair'.  Plenty of other industries have been lost or forced to adapt due to technological progress, but somehow the music industry, which is a relatively recent invention, doesn't believe it has to.  Instead, technology must be crippled to protect them.

The artists are generally in favour of this decision, are they not ?

Only

Only the big ones who have already 'broken'... and who make millions from touring anyway.
