don't you just hate it
Really?
Spencer was great for a while, and you forgot Gavin Peacock.
Hughes has brought in a defender he knows, and another with a hugely impressive CV. He's brought in a 'replacement' for Faurlin, and (as with defence), a striker he knows and another with a hugely impressive CV. It's clear he recognises that we need strength and experience in order to stay up; and we can now put out a full team with that strength and experience (and hopefully quality too). Fundamentally, it's the sort of team that will run through walls, but I don't expect it to be too pretty.
Cisse, Zamora
Traore/Taraabt, Diakite, Barton, SWP
Taiwo, Onuoha, Ferdinand, Young

you miss the point completely
emporers new clothes. houston told wright "get me mike sheron and I'll get you to the premiership". he was supposed to be the fulcrum on which a steam train motored to the top. from the first touch to the last he was a flop. I have no arguments with spencer or, to a certain extent the past his best, dying legs of peacock but it all amounted to nought.
cisse and zamora are no guarantee of goals.
ononura could not get past the useless savic at man city. the african midfielder is a complete unknown and has never played in england let alone the premiership and whilst the ac milan defender is excellent to my knowledge, again, he's an unknown quantity in the premiership.
we'll see. don't expect too much though as these are marquee, rather than pregmatic signings. stictching them together into a team will be 'interesting' to observe, still I guess the philosphy is that if relegation happens, they'll simply spend their way out of that too.
That's 'all it is'??
Understatement of the year sir. If we stay up, it will be a fantastic achievement. I'm surprised by how non-plussed you are. I think they're good/excellent signings. I especially like Taye Taiwo, if he plays at his best, we've secured a world-class left back. I also think Zamora adds a great deal to the team; strength, a solid target-man for others to play off. If Cisse can shake off his Scouse nightmare and ally his pace to Zamora's strength, with rich supply from a sumptuous Buzsaky/Taarabt midfield, we're on to a good 'un.
understatement?
i, sir, deal in fact.
hughes and his signings are tools to stay up. that's it. if simply staying up is the limit of the ambition, blindly throwing millions at just being a survivor is the goal, the target, the end game, this is very sad.
for me, a club should be built around a tradition and a spirit - a principle if you like, not around transient finance and survival. we will not win the league, we would be very fortunate to win a cup, therefore the legacy might be 'survival'. that aint nearly enough for me, although i obviously want the team to do well - what supporter of any team doesn't?
as i've said before, i'd go and see qpr if they were playing sunday league or champions league, what's more important is that it feels right and everyone's invited like at norwich, afc wimbledon and barcelona.
no you don't..
..you deal in idealism. Completely different. Fernandes is being pragmatic (within the bizarre context of Premiership football), you sir, are being naive.
If and when we build a stadium with a decent capacity, then we can talk about the next level, right now, Fernandes is dealing in (fantasy) football fact, as oppsed to pure fantasy football.
yes i do
and you, sir, are a dreamer. basing your thoughts on a limited and hopeful knowledge of the truth - a flight of fantasy if you will.
.the left back was utter, utter tripe btw, laughably so, never mind eh - he's new, exotic and might improve...
Taarabt/Traore industrial??
Which definition of industrial are you basing that on Ben? Industrial as in hard-working/busy? Industrial as in hard-wearing/designed for mass utilitarian functionality? Don't quite see Adel fitting either of those.
Buzz is far more robust player (I'm not talking about injuries, I'm talking about how he plays the game), than Taarabt, with a mentality much better suited to the Premeirship. I suspect Buzz will feature over Taarabt. We'll soon see!

No place here for SWP. Hud was right all along - like a playstation player - I just didn't realise it was being played by a circus seal.
I do share some of Evers concerns though - big wages small crowds can end in tears but part of me really doesn't give a fuck I'll watch the Rs at Wembley or Blundell Park. Gotta enjoy the journey tho and hopefully some good football. If most of them can stay fit that squad shouldn't go down
I don't disagree
I should have said that it's an industrial core. I think Hughes has shown his intentions with his signings - SWP, Buzz, Traore and Taraabt aren't his, so it's too early to tell how he'll use them. My *guess*, based on his constant inclusion of SWP, is that he'll tolerate a different kind of player on his wings - hence I fully expect either Traore or Taraabt to feature when they return.
I'm not trying to knock Buzz- personally, I'd include him over Barton; I just don't think Hughes will.

when a small club like ours, with a shockingly cramped stadium and little history of success ( League Cup Winners 1967, First Division runners-up 1976, err that's it) finds itself a megarich sugerdaddy with a "grand plan" who splashes out a King's Road ransom to try and ensure they continue to play at a level at which they have no real right to be competing?
No, actually, I love it. Come On You Rrrrrs.
( Now I've written this we are nailed on to go fown, of course.)
